Utile has a heartwood which is a uniform medium reddish brown color and a sapwood that is a pale yellow color. The grain is interlocked and it has a medium uniform texture. The wood gives off a moderate natural lustre. The end grain is diffuse-porous. The wood is rated as moderately durable to durable in regards to decay. Be careful with the wood as it reacts to iron. It turns, glues, and finishes well.
