Black Cherry has a heartwood with a light pinkish brown color. It will darken to a deeper golden brown with age. The sapwood is a pale yellowish color. The grain is usually straight and it has a fine texture. The end grain is semi-ring-porous to diffuse-porous. The wood is rated as very durable in regards to decay. It is the best all-around wood for workability.
