Itin has a heartwood that tends to be dark brown color, sometimes with purplish patches. The color darkens with age and the sapwood is a light yellow color. The grain is straight, wavy, or interlocked and it has a fine to medium texture. The wood gives off a slight natural lustre. Itin is rated as durable to very durable in regards to decay. It is difficult to work with because of its high density and glues, turns, and finishes well.
