London Plane is comprised mostly of sapwood. The sapwood is a white to light pinkish tan color, while the heartwood is a darker reddish brown. Very distinct ray flexs are present when the wood is quartersawn. The grain is straight and it has a fine even texture. The wood is rated as non-durable to perishable in regards to decay. It is easy to work with and turns, glues, and finishes well.
