Makore has a pink or reddish brown color. The grain is straight, interlocked, or wavy and it has a fine texture. The end grain is diffuse-porous. It is rated as very durable in regards to decay. It is easy to work with but it does react to iron so care should be taken. The wood has a pronounced blunting effect on cutters. It turns, glues, and finishes well.
