The heartwood of Apple varies from light reddish or grayish brown to deeper red brown. The sapwood is a pale cream color. The grain is straight and the end grain is diffuse-porous with small to very small pores. Apple is non-durable in regards to decay. The wood is somewhat difficult to work with due to its high density. Care must be taken when cutting because it can burn easy.
