Okoume has a heartwood with a pale pink to light brown color which will darken with age. The sapwood is a grayish white color. The grain is straight to wavy or slightly interlocked and it has a medium texture. The wood gives off a good natural lustre. The end grain is diffuse-porous. Okoume is rated as non-durable in regards to decay. The wood has a pronounced blunting effect on cutters. It glues, and finishes well.
