Sycamore has a sapwood which is white to light tan in color and it has a heartwood which is a darker reddish brown color. The grain is interlocked and it has a fine even texture. The end grain is diffuse-porous. Sycamore is rated as non-durable to perishable in regards to decay. It is easy to work with and turns, glues, and finishes well. It responds poorly to steam bending.
